Highlights of SWEPA’s Visit to Taipeh, 2017

This year, our SWEPA (Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association) ladies visited Taipeh on a special mission, to meet up with one of our past presidents Daatuk Adeline Leong, who now heads the Malaysia Friendship and Trade Center in Taiwan. Her post as President is equivalent to Ambassador status.

She had arranged a series of meetings with the Taiwanese Women’s Associations to facilitate networking between our associations with a view to possible hook-ups in our respective businesses or joint ventures.

The Founder President of the Taiwan Women Entrepreneurs Association, Ms Jenny Ma, is a formidable and inspiring leader who has mentored many ladies to become outstanding business women in their chosen fields.

We met very dynamic women entrepreneurs with businesses in several countries and they hosted us to sumptuous meals.

In between official functions we visited the famous Taroko Gorge. The river bed however, was almost dry and we could see the rocks on the river bed.

However, the area was very scenic and we took many pictures.

Half-hidden among the trees high up on the hill is a temple.

Further down, near the waterfall is the Changchun Shrine.

Inside the Eternal Spring Shrine

The Changchun Shrine commemorates the memory of 225 veterans who died while constructing the Central Cross-Island Highway, the first highway to cross Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. Beside the Shrine, spring water pours into the valley, forming the famous Changchun Falls.

My previous visit was five decades ago when we had our honeymoon in Taiwan. At that time, the deep gorge had a river swirling with swift currents, a huge difference from the narrow rivulet of today.
No more rushing torrents

Note the Rock Bed of the Gorge below us.

I will post separately the other places of interest that we visited.
